Preparation for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ is a central belief in Christianity. It signifies the future return of Jesus to Earth, as prophesied in the Bible.
The Story of the ten Virgins
The parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1-13) is a powerful story Jesus told to illustrate the importance of being prepared and watchful. In this story, ten virgins were waiting for the bridegroom to arrive for a wedding. Five of them were wise and brought extra oil for their lamps, while the other five were foolish and did not. When the bridegroom was delayed, the foolish virgins ran out of oil and had to leave to buy more. While they were gone, the bridegroom arrived, and only the wise virgins who were ready were allowed into the wedding feast. This story teaches us that we should always be ready for Jesus’ return, as we do not know when it will happen.
Why Jesus is Coming Back
Jesus is coming back for several important reasons:
- To receive Faithful Believers: To take those who have believed in Him and lived according to His teachings to be with Him in heaven.
- To Resurrect the Dead: To bring back to life those believers who have already died, giving them new, glorified bodies.
- To Judge the World: To assess the actions and hearts of all people, both believers and non-believers, and to administer justice.
- To Reward the Righteous: To give eternal rewards to those who have lived faithfully and served Him.
- To Punish the Wicked: To bring judgment upon those who have rejected Him and lived in disobedience.
- To Restore Peace: To establish His kingdom on Earth, bringing an end to suffering, injustice, and evil.
- To Destroy the Works of the Devil: To completely defeat Satan and all his influence, ensuring that good triumphs over evil.
What Christians Should Do While Waiting
As Christians, we should actively prepare for Jesus’ return by:
- Remaining Holy: Living a life that is pleasing to God, avoiding sin and pursuing righteousness.
- Preaching the Gospel: Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others so they too can believe and be saved.
- Seeking the Kingdom of God: Making God’s priorities our priorities, focusing on His will and his purposes.
- Praying Always: Communicating with God regularly, seeking His guidance and strength.
- Doing Good Works: Showing love and compassion to others through acts of kindness and service.
- Avoiding Greed: Being content with what we have and not being consumed by the desire for more.
- Loving God and neighbors: Obeying Jesus’ command to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
- Being prayerful: Praying without ceasing, maintaining a constant connection with God.
- Studying God’s Word: Reading and meditating on the Bible to learn more about God and His will for our lives.
- Fellowshipping with Believers: Connecting with other Christians for encouragement, support, and accountability.
