Moving Our Body Parts – Stepping and Hopping.

Stepping:

  • Stepping refers to the action of lifting one foot off the ground and placing it forward or sideways, followed by bringing the other foot to meet it.
  • Stepping is a fundamental movement skill that helps develop coordination and balance.

Techniques for Stepping:

  1. Lift one foot off the ground and bring it forward or sideways.
  2. Place the foot down gently, ensuring it lands flat on the ground.
  3. Transfer the body weight onto the stepping foot.
  4. Repeat the same process with the other foot.

Hopping:

  • Hopping refers to the action of jumping off one foot and landing on the same foot.
  • Hopping involves a brief moment of suspension in the air before landing on the ground.

Techniques for Hopping

  1. Start by bending the knees slightly.
  2. Push off the ground with one foot, propelling the body upward.
  3. Keep the other foot lifted and tucked close to the body.
  4. Land softly on the same foot, bending the knees to absorb the impact.
  5. Maintain balance and stability throughout the hopping movement.
  6. Repeat the process with the other foot.

Safety rules in stepping and hopping:

  1. We should always ensure that where we are stepping and hopping is free from any obstacles and sharp objects.
  2. We should always wear comfortable shoes that provide good grip and support.
  3. When stepping and hopping always look ahead and be aware of the surrounding.

Evaluation:

Ask the following questions to access the pupil’s understanding

  • What are the safety rules to follow when stepping and hopping?
  • Why is it important to maintain good posture and balance?
  • Describe the correct techniques for stepping and hopping.
