Useful But Harmful Insects
Insects can be friends and foes! Today, we learned about insects that are helpful because they pollinate plants or eat other harmful bugs but can also damage crops or spread diseases. For example:
- Bees: They help by pollinating flowers but can sting and cause allergies.
- Ladybugs: Great at eating aphids which harm plants, but in large numbers, they can invade homes and become a nuisance.
- Ants: Some ants help by breaking down organic matter, but they can also invade our homes and harm crops.
- Mosquitoes: They are food for birds and fish, but they spread diseases like malaria.
- Wasps: They control other pests but can be very aggressive and sting humans.
Each of these insects has a role in nature but can also affect our lives negatively. It’s important to know how to deal with them safely and responsibly!
Lesson Evaluation:
To evaluate the learning, the teacher asks pupils to:
- Name two insects that are both useful and harmful.
- Explain why bees are considered both useful and harmful.
- Describe one way to safely observe harmful insects.
