Pupils are expected to be familiar with basic furniture items and their uses from their previous lesson on home furnishing.

To deliver this lesson, the teacher will adopt the following steps:

Classroom Note:

Home Furnishing

Home furnishing are furniture, fittings and decorative accessories that make our homes comfortable and beautiful. For example, wooden items like ;

1. Chair – A common piece of furniture used for sitting.
2. Table – Used for dining, studying, or as a place to keep other items.
3. Bed Frame – The part of the bed that holds the mattress. Usually, the bed frame is wooden and can be found in the bedroom.
4. Shelf – Used for storing or displaying items such as books, toys, or kitchenware. Shelves can be mounted on walls or stand alone in various rooms.
5. Toy Box – Often used in children’s rooms to store toys, keeping the area neat and tidy. Wooden toy boxes are durable and can handle rough use.

In different rooms, we find specific furniture; such as;

Furnitures in the Bedroom:

1. Bed – where we sleep.
2. Wardrobe – where we store our clothes.
3. Dresser – where we keep smaller clothing items and often a mirror on top for grooming.
4. Nightstand – a small table next to the bed for a lamp, books, or a clock.
5. Bookshelf – a place to organize and store books.

Furnitures in the Sitting Room:

1. Sofa – a comfortable seat for multiple people.
2. Coffee Table – a low table in the center of the sitting area for holding books, drinks, or decorative items.
3. TV Stand – furniture that holds the television and possibly other electronics and media.
4. Armchair – a single-seat chair that is typically very comfortable.
5. Side Table – a small table usually placed beside a sofa or armchair to hold small items like a lamp or drinks.

Lesson Evaluation:

To evaluate the learning, the teacher asks pupils to:

1. Name two items in the home that are made of wood.
2. Mention one piece of furniture found in the bedroom and one in the sitting room.
3. Draw a simple picture of a bed or a sofa.
