Classroom Note:

Entering the Swimming Pool:

  1. Preparation: Before entering the pool, make sure you have everything you need, like your swim gear, a towel, and, if necessary.
  2. Approach the Entry Point: Always walk slowly to the entry point of the pool to avoid slipping or falling. Pools can be slippery when wet.
  3. Using the Pool Steps or Ladder: If your pool has steps or a ladder, this is usually the safest way to get in. Hold onto the handrail if there is one, and step down carefully,
  4. Entering from the Poolside: If you are entering the pool from the side, sit on the edge first. Then, slide into the water gently, using your hands to steady yourself.
  5. Getting Used to the Water: Once you are in the water, take a moment to adjust to the temperature and feel the water with your hands and feet.

Exiting The Swimming Pool

  1. Approach the Exit Point: Start by slowly swimming or walking to the part of the pool where you can exit.
  2. Use the Ladder or Steps: If your pool has a ladder, approach it carefully and grab onto the rails with both hands. Always face the ladder while exiting.
  3. Exiting Without a Ladder: If there’s no ladder or steps, you can exit by pulling yourself up from the side. Place your hands on the edge of the pool and push down with your arms while swinging your legs up and onto the poolside. Sit on the edge for a moment to gain balance.
  4. Dry Off and Walk Carefully: Once you’re out of the pool, take a moment to dry your feet with a towel to prevent slipping. Walk slowly and carefully away from the pool area to avoid any accidents on wet surfaces.
  5. Adult Supervision: Always make sure there is an adult nearby to help you if needed. They can offer a hand or guide you to make sure you exit the pool safely.

Evaluation Questions:

  1. What should you always use when entering a swimming pool?
  2. Why is it important not to run in the pool area?
  3. Show me how you would safely exit a swimming pool.
