Methods of Purifying Water

  1. Boiling Water: Heating water until it bubbles for a few minutes kills most of the germs and makes it safe to drink.
  2. Using Chlorine Tablets: Adding a small tablet to water can clean it by killing bacteria and viruses (always under adult supervision).
  3. Filtering: passing water through a filter can remove particles and some germs.
  4. Solar Disinfection: using the sun’s power to purify water. This involves filling clear plastic bottles with water and placing them in the sun for a day.
  5. Settling and Decanting: letting muddy water sit until the dirt settles at the bottom and then pouring the cleaner water on top into another container can also help make it safer.
