Classroom Note:

Properties Of Energy

Energy is everywhere and it helps us do work. The following are five main properties of energy:

  1. Transferability: Energy can be transferred from one object to another. For example, when you push a toy car, you transfer your muscle energy to it.
  2. Transformability: Energy can change from one form to another. Like electrical energy can turn into light and heat in a bulb.
  3. Conservation: Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed.
  4. Potential and Kinetic: Energy exists in two main forms; potential (stored energy) and kinetic (energy of movement).
  5. Dependency on Mass and Velocity: The amount of kinetic energy an object has depends on its mass/weight and how fast it moves.

Lesson Evaluation:
To evaluate the learning, the teacher asks pupils to:

  1. Name two properties of energy discussed today.
  2. Give one example of energy transfer that occurs in a playground.
  3. Explain what happens to kinetic energy when a ball slows down.
