Uses of the Keyboard
The keyboard is an important tool for computers. It is used for typing, navigating, and controlling the computer. We use it for writing emails, creating documents, and chatting with friends. We can also use it to play games and search for information on the internet.
Types and Functions of Keys on the Keyboard
The keyboard has different types of keys, and each type has its job.
Alphabetic keys: These keys have letters A to Z. We use them to type words and sentences.
Numeric keys: These keys have numbers 0 to 9. We use them to enter numbers in documents or when doing math.
System keys: These keys have special functions like Enter, Shift, and Ctrl. Enter helps us start new lines or actions, Shift is for capital letters, and Ctrl is for special commands.
Alphanumeric keys: These keys have both letters and numbers. We use them for a mix of letters and numbers.
Arrow/Navigation keys: These keys have arrows (up, down, left, right). They help us move around documents or web pages.
Function Keys: These keys are labeled F1, F2, and so on. They have different functions in different programs.
Special Keys: The keyboard also has some special keys with specific functions, they include;
- Escape (Esc) key: It can be used to cancel or stop something.
- Delete key: It helps to remove text or items.
- Backspace key: This key erases text to the left of the cursor.
- Tab key: It moves the cursor to the next tab stop.
- Caps Lock key: It makes all letters typed in capital letters until turned off.
- Spacebar: It adds spaces between words.
- Enter key: It’s used to start a new line or confirm an action.
