Types of Diskette

There are different types of diskettes used over time. The main types include:

  1. 8-inch Diskette: This was the first type of floppy diskette. It could store around 80KB of data. It is very large and was mainly used in the 1970s.
  2. 5.25-inch Diskette: This diskette is smaller than the 8-inch version and can store more data, usually between 360KB and 1.2MB. It was commonly used in the 1980s.
  3. 3.5-inch Diskette: This is the most recent and widely recognized floppy disk. It can store up to 1.44MB of data. It has a hard plastic cover which makes it more durable.

Densities of Diskettes:
  • Single Density (SD): These have the least storage capacity.
  • Double Density (DD): These can store twice as much data as single density.
  • High Density (HD): These have even greater storage capacity, up to 1.44MB.

Lesson Evaluation

To evaluate the learning, the teacher asks pupils to:

  1. Identify the three main types of floppy diskettes.
  2. Describe the differences between the 5.25-inch and 3.5-inch diskettes.
