Sir Ahmadu Bello

  • Sir Ahmadu Bello, born on June 12, 1910, was a prominent Nigerian statesman and political leader. He hailed from the Sokoto Caliphate and was the Sardauna of Sokoto.
  • Sir Ahmadu Bello played a pivotal role in the struggle for Nigeria’s independence and the subsequent formation of the First Republic in 1960.
  • Unfortunately, Sir Ahmadu Bello’s life was tragically cut short when he was assassinated on January 15, 1966, during a coup that marked a turning point in Nigerian history.

King Jaja Of Opobo

  • King Jaja of Opobo, whose full name was Jubo Jubogha, was a prominent and influential figure in Nigerian history. He was born in 1821 in Umuduruoha, a small village in the eastern part of the Niger Delta region. Jaja was originally from Igboland but was captured and sold into slavery at a young age.
  • King Jaja’s achievements include organizing a strong and independent Opobo trading state that resisted external control, especially from British colonial powers.
  • He was exiled to the West Indies, where he died in 1891.
