Field Events; High Jump And Long Jump

Field events are athletic events that involve jumping, throwing, and vaulting. They are different from track events, which involve running.

Examples of field events include:

  1. High Jump
  2. Long Jump
  3. Triple Jump
  4. Pole Vault
  5. Javelin Throw

Rules of High Jump:

  1. Run towards the bar and jump off one foot.
  2. Clear the bar without knocking it down.
  3. Land on the mat safely.
  4. Each athlete has three attempts to clear each height.
  5. The bar is raised progressively higher.

Rules of Long Jump:

  1. Run down the runway to gain speed.
  2. Jump from the take-off board.
  3. Land in the sandpit.
  4. The jump is measured from the take-off board to the nearest mark in the sand.
  5. Each athlete has three to six attempts.

Lesson Evaluation

To evaluate the learning, the teacher asks pupils to:

  1. Define field events.
  2. List three examples of field events.
  3. Describe two rules of high jump.
  4. Describe two rules of long jump.
  5. Demonstrate a proper high jump or long jump technique.
