Lesson Content
Reason For National Honours Awards: Meritorious & Selfless Service
National honours are awards given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the country. Two reasons for receiving these awards are meritorious service and selfless service.
Meritorious Service: This means performing outstanding duties for the good of the country, beyond what is expected in one’s role. People who go the extra mile in their duties, whether in leadership, education, or health care, can receive national honours.
Selfless Service: Selfless service involves putting the needs of others or the nation above personal interests. These are acts performed with no expectation of personal gain, such as volunteering in times of crisis or helping to improve the lives of the less fortunate.
Lesson Evaluation:
To evaluate the learning, the teacher asks pupils to:
- Define meritorious service.
- What does selfless service mean?
- Mention two examples of people who could receive national honours for selfless service.
- Why is selfless service important for national development?
- Give an example of meritorious service in your community.
