General Yakubu Gowon (1966 – 1975)
- Yakubu Gowon became Nigeria’s Head of State after the coup of 1966.
- He was in power during the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970).
- He introduced the “No Victor, No Vanquished” policy to promote national unity.
- His government established the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1973.
