Types of Marriage
There are two (2) main types of marriage and they are:
- Inter-ethnic Marriage: A marriage between people from different ethnic groups.
- Intra-ethnic Marriage: A marriage between people from the same ethnic group.
Elements of Marriage Traditions
The following are elements involved in marriage:
- Exchange of Vows: The couple promises to love and support each other.
- Dowry or Bride Price: Payment or gift given by the groom’s family to the bride’s family.
- Wedding Ceremony: A formal celebration marking the union of the couple.
- Religious or Legal Documentation: Official recognition of the marriage through religious or legal papers.
- Family Blessings: Approval and support from both families for the marriage.
Issues Related to Inter-ethnic Marriage:
